Dances of Vice Festival returns on November 20 – 22 2009 in a three-day nautical themed flight of fancy that will be held in several stunning and exclusive locations: Fort Hamilton (ca. 1825), a handsome historical armory which overlooks the New York Bay – The Montauk Club (ca. 1889), an opulent Victorian clubhouse modeled after a Venetian palace – and The Vault of Element – architectural marvels of the 19th Century, all. In line with our nautical theme, the festival weekend starts off with a luxury cruise aboard The Jewel.The festival programme features live music ranging from classical opera to rock ballads, international guests, historical costume fashion shows, dance, puppetry, fencing, performance art, vendors, and ballroom dancing, among other chimerical amusements.The creation of Shien Lee, Dances of Vice began in New York in 2007 as a venue showcasing an exotic melange of performances from and influenced by that special time in history, the 1920s and 30s. Since then, it has blossomed to include Victorian and Rococo themed events with a New Romantic flair, and has established a decadent community of elegant dandies, aesthetes, romantics and ne’er-do-wells who gather in shared enthusiasm for the music, fashion, culture, and beauty of times forgotten.The first Dances of Vice Festival took place in February 2008, featuring an incredible variety of musical, visual culture, dance and performance art talent which attracted over 600 guests attending from across the US, Canada, Europe, Australia, and UK. Followed by a second unforgettable festival in August 2008, and having been featured by such press as MTV News, SPIN Magazine, NY Times, and NHK, the Dances of Vice Festival has become one of the most anticipated events for artists and bohemians globaly.The grand vision that is Dances of Vice is more than the name implies; it is the Dance of decadence, of opulence, of glamour in the old-fashioned sense, and the unique bringing together of such like minds through themed evenings that combine Art, Music, Spectacle and Dance. Dances of Vice brings the myriad of magnificent influences of the past together in one club in a context that encourages originality and the avant-garde.
